The unemployment office serving Dekalb County, in northern Illinois, is located in the city of Dekalb. Office staff will provide jobless workers with the forms they need to obtain UI benefits, together with instructions on how to properly complete and to file the required documentation. Completed forms may be submitted to the office, so long as claimants have proper identification and Social Security numbers. The Resource Room maintained at the center includes access to the classified job opportunity sections in area newspapers, computers connected to teh Internet so that visitors can build resumes, post resumes, submit online applications, search online job databases, and submit unemployment compensation claims online with the states of Illinois. Phone usage is also provided to allow workers to reach the Illinois Tele-Serve system. Copiers are provided so that copies of resumes can be made to submit to possible employers, and fax machines can be used to fax resumes and/or applications to companies that may be hiring.
For veterans who need career counseling or other specialized assistance, a representative is available by prior appointment through the phone number listed below. Young people can get help finding summer jobs and work permits. There are also Spanish speaking staff on duty.
The Dekalb unemployment insurance office is open on weekdays from 8:30 am until 5:00 pm. On-site public parking is available, but the office itself is not close to any of the area's bus routes.
