Less than Half of Unemployed Now Recieve Benefits

The Associated Press reported yesterday in an article written by Christopher S. Rubagar that the majority of unemployed American recieve no unemployment benefits. Just one year ago, 75% of the unemployed recieved unemployment compensation payments. With the continuing collapse of our economy under the current administration, the number of long-term unemployed has skyrocketed. As a result, the percentage of unemployed workers recieving assistance has plummeted to a dismal 48%. Because no improvement in the job market is occuring, that number will continue to worsen in the coming year.

New Food Stamp High in August 2011

The U.S. Department of Agriculture reported today that reliance of SNAP (the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program), also known as Food Stamps, hit an all time high in August, with 45.8 million Americans now depending on the program to keep their families fed.

It's a sign of the troubled economic times. Hallmark, the country's foremost greeting card maker, has introduced a line of unemployment cards to send to laid-off workers.
